The entire history of the world has been leading to this very moment. The looming Ecological and Economic challenges we will face are unprecedented to mankind. But I am optimistic because, thankfully, we are the very ones who put ourselves in this position.
I say thankfully, because who is better to disarm a booby-trap than the ones who actually set it? Had this been some natural or other-worldly battle we were forced to fight, I may have been standing on a street corner with my "The End Is Near!" sign. But any species that is capable of building pyramids, supersonic jets and Neutron bombs must still be capable of putting that know-how to something great.
We have proven ourselves to be expert timebomb makers. Now we just need to figure out which wire to cut first.
